RECEH COPAS (Community Palliative Service) is a transdisciplinary research and learning program hosted by Universitas Indonesia. It explores the intersection of housing and settlements as spaces for community-based palliative care across the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area. This one-semester, 20-credit program brings together students from diverse fields to collaborate with faculty and stakeholders.
The program stems from the realization that the acts of caregiving and facing mortality often unfold within the cramped, fragile spaces of urban “kampungs.” It examines how homes and living environments function as vital yet overlooked care infrastructures. Through immersive fieldwork and critical discourse, participants delve into the profound relationships between space, culture, health, and human dignity at the end of life, ultimately envisioning care models that are more compassionate and contextually grounded.
