Anthropology at a Glance

What is Anthropology?

Understanding and exploring the richness of human cultures and societies through social, historical, and global perspectives.

Anthropology offers a holistic and in-depth study of humanity and its cultural evolution. The Department of Anthropology at Universitas Indonesia was established to foster a deeper understanding of human diversity, both within the Indonesian archipelago and across the globe.

Through a comprehensive approach, our department examines the multifaceted dimensions of human life—from social structures, linguistics, arts, and religion to politics and biological aspects. We emphasize immersive fieldwork and the development of anthropological theories that are deeply rooted in the Indonesian context yet remain globally relevant.

Our academic programs span Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral levels, all of which have achieved the “Unggul” (Excellent) accreditation status from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT).
