The Fire Play Program is a collaborative research initiative between PROSPER and Pantau Gambut, developed by the Social Anthropology Study Program at FISIP UI. The project seeks to understand peatland fires through the lens of social relations and local livelihoods. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in Riau and Central Kalimantan, it examines the intricate links between local communities and key commodities—such as coconut and rattan—within the context of sustainable peatland landscapes.
Designed in two phases, Fire Play bridges the gap between field research, public dissemination, and policy dialogue. This creates a model of knowledge production that is inherently collaborative, reflective, and impact-oriented. Through this approach, Fire Play reinforces a commitment to academically rigorous research that actively contributes to the public discourse on peat restoration, environmental justice, and sustainability.
