The “Fire Play: SPREAD (Sustaining just-Policy and Recognition through Equitable and Amplifiable Dissemination)” project is a continuation of the initial Fireplay initiative, which documented indigenous fire governance. Running from July 2025 to December 2026, this phase focuses on amplifying impact through multi-scale dissemination strategies across local, national, and international levels.
Led by an interdisciplinary research team, the project is grounded in GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) principles. This includes fostering the participation of women and youth researchers, while strengthening Dayak community inclusion in knowledge production and sharing.
Through collaborative multimedia production, inter-village screenings, research dissemination workshops, and writing fellowships—culminating in an international fire-themed symposium and exhibition—the project aims to broaden public recognition of indigenous environmental stewardship. Ultimately, SPREAD seeks to bolster Dayak self-determination and advocate for fire management policies that are grounded in justice and indigenous perspectives.
